The author gives a brief presentation of the historical background of her novel-in-progress, The Quadrivium, and explains how it is used as a vantage point for the creation of character and the development of theme. Views it alongside other literary traditions, both Irish and Australian, and makes some observations on the dimension it gives to the contemporary Irish-Australian experience.
