AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Convict Words explores the language of the Australian convict era, capturing both the 'mythic' convict Australia and the prosaic language of administration. The book takes the form of a dictionary with supporting quotations from contemporary texts, including newspapers, government reports and documents, contemporary observations, and novels.
