'English Rae falls out with the influential Sheila when she commences at a Sydney boarding school. Through the establishment of a Girl Guide troupe, the two become friends, but only after a brush with sharks, being lost in the bush, fighting bushfires, and saving lives, all done with great daring and flair' (Oxford Companion to Australian Children's Literature 298).
