Woomera was an Australian science-fiction journal that first appeared in February 1951. Published by Futurian Press, a small independent operation set up by Vol Molesworth in association with several fellow students from the University of Sydney, the journal was closely linked to the Australian Science Fiction Society (ASFS). Molesworth, founding editor Nick Solntseff, and associate Graham Stone were also members of the Futurian Society of Sydney, hence the appropriation of the name Futurian. Woomera's purpose, as with that of the ASFS, was to keep Australian fans in touch with the world of science fiction, including other fans. In addition to new short stories, news, and announcements, the journal provided insights into the current publishing situation, background history of science-fiction publishing, and a fan directory (which included contact addresses).
