Examines German literature on Australia from the 17th century to the First World War, under the aspect of the experience of 'otherness'. Includes primary text material by German writers and visitors to Australia such as von Kotze, Gerstaecker, J. Campe. Contributes to the history of literary exotism in Germany as well as to the study of socio-historical developments of German-Australian relations.
