AbstractHistoryArchive Description

The author considers a large collection of Australian writings on Chinese people or on China, demonstrating the kinds of Chinese images created by Australian writers. He analyses the formation of images and literary themes, applying Said's theory of Orientalism, and traces changes in approach over the period late 1850s to the 1990s.
