Notes

  • This poem initially appeared in the Empire in August 1861 with the author's name indicated as Basil E. Kendall. It was subsequently published in the Illawarra Mercury in November 1861, retitled as 'Keira' (the mountain adjacent to Mount Kembla) with the author's name indicated as Henry Kendall. This November 1861 version replaces the name 'Kembla' with 'Keira' throughout the poem.
