Notes

  • Hester Siding was one of seven plays selected by the Australian Broadcasting Commission for its 1937 Australian 'Radio Drama Week.'
  • The 1937 Sydney and Perth productions, although broadcast on the same day, were independently produced and performed.
  • In its preview of the forthcoming week of radio drama the Cumberland Argus and Fruitgrowers Advocate notes that the Australian Broadcasting Commission regarded Hester Siding as 'one of the most moving and beautiful little dramas of simple ordinary people' ('Australian Radio Drama Week,' p. 10).
  • Hester is a small town in the South West region of Western Australia, and situated some 260 kilometres south of Perth. It was gazetted a townsite in 1899, and was originally a siding on the Donnybrook to Bridgetown railway, opened in 1898.
