A drama about political scandal in high places, the story follows Presley Swift, the retiring Australian ambassador to Italy. He and his wife Sylvia are about to spend their last weekend in the country with their son Simon and old friend Frances, when they are informed by the press that a long-buried story is about to surface. It implicates Presley Swift in the death of a young girl, a death that was covered up when it happened. The story forces Simon to react strongly to the news in an effort to protect his own political ambitions. It also creates tension between the couple and Frances, who finds herself unable to forgive the betrayal of her trust.
