After the death of their mother, Joan struggles to support herself and her entrancing young sister, Dorothy. When Joan submits an unpublishable short story to a newspaper, it is Dorothy's secret action which leads to a reunion to the man Joan loves, but had rejected.
A spoiled and immature woman, Marie, is forced to help her doctor husband, David, deliver a baby after their car runs out of petrol near an isolated house. The experience causes her to query her previous attitudes.
