'The substance of this pamphlet was published in 1863, but it has long since been out of print, and believing that the narrative of the sufferings and strange incidents here recorded will be read with interest as long as Queensland is in existence, I have determined to reissue it.' (Note to the fifth edition). Earlier editions not traced.
This new edition contains James Morrill's original 1864 text with accompanying photographs previously published by Eric Mjoberg in 1918. Photographs by Alfred Atkinson and James Handley, taken about the 1890s are also included.
