'On The Whipping Side is a dramatic re-creation of some of the major events of the 1891 Shearers' Strike. The play is set in several parts of Queensland, notably Clermont, Rockhampton and Brisbane during the six months of the strike. The passions and the conflicting ideologies of the time provide the dramatic interest in this play which is as much about the battles between the factions and personalities of the labour movement as it is about the war between capital and labour.'
