AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Poems by Georg Trakl translated by James McAuley, illustrated by John Olsen, set to music by Larry Sitsky.

Notes

  • The work was commissioned by the Goethe Institute. The copy text for this edition consists of McAuley's translations of Trakl's poems first published in "The Poetry of Georg Trakl" (The Grammar of the Real, 202-223), although some emendations were made after comparison with other versions (editor's note).
  • Austrian poet Georg Trakl , who committed suicide in 1914 at the age of 27, left just over one hundred poems written between 1912 and his death. His work is widely acknowledged as an important influence on the poetry of James McAuley.
