AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A story of sudden death and industrial espionage in a mining town.

Silver Ridge began airing immediately after Afford's adaptation of The Franchise Affair, but received considerably poorer reviews.

Notes

  • Setting:

The serial did not explicitly state that it took place in Broken Hill, but contemporary newspapers noted that it was 'set in a mining city that is but a thinly veiled version of Broken Hill' ('Too Many Talk Like Dave', Mail, 19 June 1954, p.55). Broken Hill's own newspaper noted that 'This is a radio story based on Afford's visit to this City a short while ago. Although it does not especially refer to Broken Hill, it is characteristic of the modern mining city today' ('"Silver Ridge" on 2NB', Barrier Daily Truth, 22 September 1954, p.5).

Production Details

  • First broadcast on Sunday 13 June 1954, from 7:30pm.

    Producer: Max Afford.

Cast members included Charles Tingwell and Edward Howell.
