'The Dymant children have the solution to the world's problems, but Janetta finds a successful career and demands the abandonment of her ideals, while Griff must abandon his scientific ambitions to become a humdrum clerk. Only Chrystal remains a poetic idealist, and because she cannot compromise, her personal solution can only be suicide.'
