Jennifer Strauss in Boundary Conditions (1992) explains that the sequence of four poems were: "written in 1987 as part of the 70th birthday celebrations of the violinist and noted teacher Jan Sedivka. The poems with the Four Movements for Violin and Piano composed by Larry Sitsky, form a 'Tetragrammaton' of symbolic values based on the letters of the name of Jehovah. 'Yod' is the active principal, the beginning, first cause, motion, energy; 'He' is the passive element, inertia, quietude, 'not I'; 'Vau' is the balance of opposites, 'form'; the final 'He' is the result , latent energy."
