— Review of Grandmamma's Verse-Book for Young Australia : Part 1 Louisa Anne Meredith , 1878 selected work poetry
'Its speciality is, that it has a pure colonial air about it. There is liveliness and a happy cheerful spirit pervading all the little poems, but the spirit smacks of the soil...Some of the poems have appeared in the Sydney Mail and they are among the best in the volume...But their [sic] is a charm about Australian scenery and surroundings which is all they own, and is felt deeply by Australian children and this charm our authoress puts forward with a sweetness that should make her verses like household words to them.'
