  • Author's note: Lars Gustafsson has kindly allowed me to reproduce seven of his poems. My versions of these were made in close collaboration with him but I have had generous help from others, Keith Harrison in particular: the translation of Sonnet I embodies many of his suggestions.

    Of the 'Three Film-clips', two have appeared in earlier versions in my book Voice Unaccompanied (Australian University Press, 1970). 'Portrait of Lotten' first appeared in The Age (Melbourne), and 'Elegy' and 'Warm Rooms and Cold' in Stand (U.K.).
