19th-Century Australian Travel Writing
Now attributed to Hannah Newton Baker, the reminiscences in Sketches of Australian Life and Scenery were published anonymously by "one who has been a resident in the colonies for thirty years." The author includes a note to the publishers stating that the colonies are experiencing steady yet rapid growth, which has been recorded in this work. Through this travel narrative, Baker details Aboriginal customs, bush scenery, the diggings, and cities in Victoria.
