      • Dedication : These verses, written at odd times during a lifetime spent mostly in the Dawson Valley bushland are dedicated to our dear son, Norman, and the mates he loved so well. I also pay grateful tribute to his Uncle (Captain Tom Hewitt, 26th Battalion, A.I.F., killed in action at Pozieres, July 29th, 1916), to his cousin (A./Sgt. Geoffry V. Hewitt, "C" Coy., 2/13th Batalion, who gave his life in covering the retreat of his men, on night patrol near Tobruk, 1941) and to all those gallant Australian servicemen who will return to our midst no more.
      • Frontispiece: photographic portrait of Sgt. Thomas Norman Cotgrave House 'B' Coy., 2/25th Batt., AIF. Died of Wounds Received in Action near Kokoda (New Guinea) Nov. 11th, 1942, aged 35 years.
