  • Editor's note: Louis Esson, dramatist and poet, who died in 1943, wrote six one-act and five full-length plays that won praise from critics in Australia and overseas. Dead Timber was included in Gollancz's World's Best One- Act Plays. He published also two collections of verse. This new volume, Southern Cross and Other Plays is published by arrangement with the Literary Fund as a memorial to him.
