Notes

  • This poem has been attributed to Kendall, however it appeared in Humbug without the author's name indicated. It shares the first two lines of Kendall's poem 'The Leaves on the Lattices Falling', but otherwise is a quite different work. Marcus Clarke's copy of Humbug has the initials 'M.C.' written beside the poem, which suggests that Clarke might have in fact been the author.
