A magazine called TV Times was originally published by Australian Consolidated Press (ACP) but, as television magazines proliferated in Australia in 1957 - 1958, the ACP merged their TV Times with the Australian Broadcasting Commission's (ABC) magazine TV News. The new TV Times began as a Sydney publication, expanding to Melbourne in 1959 and then to other regional capitals (Hobart excluded) by 1961. In 1980, the ABC ended its agreement with the ACP, which absorbed the former's share in TV Times; when the ACP then entered into an agreement with NewsCorp in the same year, TV Times was folded in its rival TV Week, and ceased to exist as an independent publication.
