Early this year the media made desultory efforts to commemorate the anniversary of the student upheaval of 1968. Small left-wing sects greeted the occasion with ecstatic enthusiasm. But was 1968 the appropiate year for Australians to celebrate? Didn't the student revolt come in 1967? And does it still deserve special reverance four decades on? If so, why?
