AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Launched in August 1946, the Australasian Book News and Library Journal ran for less than two years, ceasing production in April 1948 'for reasons too numerous to mention.' Edited by George Farwell, the magazine featured a book-of-the-month and included book news, review essays, short stories, biographies and a children's section edited by Eve Pownall. In addition to regular contributors, Farwell, Pownall and Ken Levis, contributors included Rosemary Dobson, Alan Marshall, Aileen Palmer, Miles Franklin, James Devaney, Ruth Park, Frank Dalby Davison, Vance Palmer, Nettie Palmer, Douglas Stewart, R. G. Howarth, C. Hartley Grattan, James McAuley and Kenneth Slessor. Each issue also included a list of books supplied to the National Library under the provisions of the Copyright Act.
