Author's note: "To the Proprietor of the Moreton Bay Courier: Lest others should be blamed for my crimes, allow me to lay claim to the following trifles, which, at various times, have appeared in this paper, viz. - 'The Cabbage War', 'The Cleveland Point Whale' [sic], and 'The Ghost that Appeared to the Editor' [sic] - as my exclusive property, 'which nobody can deny'; and permit me, in future, to call myself, NEMO".
'Nemo's' claim that he wrote the poem 'Of a Ghost That Appeared to the Editor', might not be correct. This work also appeared in the Perth Gazette on 20 May, 1848, where it was attributed to the English author and journalist Douglas Jerrold (1803-1857).
