  • The following handwritten note appears in the margin of the National Library of Australia's copy of The Lone Hand, vol.1 no.1, May 1907:
    'This poem was composed one night in the room of a hotel at Como. Daley, running short of copy paper, jotted down the last four lines on my white linen collar' - Rod Quinn.
