As co-Australian correspondent for the New York, USA, music magazine Cadence, the author interviewed many jazz musicians. The poems are based on her observations of the jazz musicians she met. The musicians are mainly American with a few from Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Each poem has a small biography and portrait of the musician.
