Notes

  • Author's Foreword: The poems in this book are collected from nine small books of verse published between 1936 and 1962, with the addition of a number of poems not previously published in book form, written between 1962 and 1967. The volume does not necessarily contain "all the poems that the author wishes to preserve" ... but it is a collection of what I think are the best. (vii-viii).
