...The scents and sounds of bush, sun, and water are in these brief poems, and as each living thing is held for a moment in the light of intense vision, the poet sees in its grotesque or exquisite strangeness the mysteries of creation and of good and evil.
Besides these poems of the earth there are two longer poems of the sea, "Terra Australis' and 'Worsley Enchanted'. The first is a brilliant, witty, and significant account of the ghostly meeting in mid-ocean, between Australia and South America, of Quiros and William Lane, each voyaging to seek his utopia in the country the other has left. 'Worsley Enchanted' explores with Shackleton's 1914 expedition the dreamlike splendour and terror of the Antarctic, and explores too the regions beyond the surface of reality.
