  • Author's note: No figure was better known in Broome than that of the kindly and gentle old man, Con Gill, who died on the 19th of August, 1955. Hailing from the West Indies in the colourful early days of the pearling industry, he sat in the sun or wandered down the winding roads of the straggling North Western port of pearls.
