'There is a daughter who has been well educated and a young squatter who is in love with her. A crook makes trouble, but the timely arrival of a rich uncle saves the situation.'

The manuscript held in The Hanger Collection of Australian Manuscripts in the Fryer Library at the University of Queensland contains the following character notes:

CAST

TOM DICKSON. About 50 years.

SAM DICKSON. similar in every respect to Tom

FRANK DICKSON. About 22. Tall, raw, bony, walk slouchly, talks with a drawl, but of a swell when dressed. On workdays wears dungarees and looks tidy.

BILL DICKSON. About 16. Also wears dungarees, cheerful talk sharp and frank.

WATLER GRAND. About 35. Athletic, well spoken, good style of scoundrel, educated highly.

EILEEN DICKSON. Attractive, kindly, good figure, well dressed, educated.

MRS. DICKSON. About 45. Silvery hair, fair figure, kindly.

PEGGIE DICKSON. About 18. Rollicking, confident, careless about dress, a bit of a tom-boy. Good figure.

DAISY SHEPHARD. About 26 long faced, solemn, proud, selfish, stuck-up yet simple. Good figure and dresses with quaint taste.

REG WINCHESTER. About 28. Good looking, bushman, smartly dressed, soft hat, riding tweeds and shirt belt.

MRS. SHEPHARD. Mother of daisy.

PARSON MCKAY. Scotch 'meenister'.
