  • Patchett wrote a number of books which OXAC calls a series, some of which have a 'Brumby' subtitle, but there is no formal name or numbering. This sequence contains: The Brumby (1958), Come Home, Brumby (1961), Circus Brumby (1962), Stranger in the Herd (1964), Brumby Foal (1965), The Long Ride (1970) and Rebel Brumby (1972).
  • First published as a short story in the magazine John Bull then expanded into a novel the same year.
