Notes

  • In the version that appeared in The Bulletin (1893) and The Worker (1894), the third line in verse three reads : '(Ah, men of town! you have songs of woe to tell of the rights you lack,'. This line appears in the later versions as : 'The poor of the city have friends in woe, no matter how much they lack,'
