Notes

  • Satirical poem ostensibly written by George Barrington and claimed to have been spoken by him at the opening of the convict-run Sydney Theatre in 1796. The actual author of the verses was subsequently proven to be a literary gentleman in the city of Leicester, Henry Carter.
