BiographyHistory

Born in Suffolk in 1818, Edgar Smith Wigg was a bookseller in Warwickshire before migrating to South Australia in 1849 on the William Hyde. He began selling books and homeopathic medicines in Adelaide, so founding a business which was to become one of the oldest continuing businesses in Adelaide. Joined by his son Edward Neale Wigg in 1867, Edgar Smith Wigg's shop developed into a leading bookseller and stationer, of Rundle Street, Adelaide, with other branches in South and Western Australia, and with divisions for printing and publishing.

E. S. Wigg died in 1899.
