Born in Adelaide in 1852, George Frederick Hussey was the nephew of Henry Hussey, an Adelaide printer. He was apprenticed as a printer to David Gall in 1866, and later worked for Scymgour and Sons, printers. In 1888 Hussey joined with J. R. Gillingham in the purchase of the printing company Carey and Page, so establishing the printing and publishing firm Hussey and Gillingham. Hussey retired in 1921.
