J. P. Donleavy is an Irish-American born novelist who became well known after the publication of his first novel The Ginger Man. He studied in Dublin at Trinity College and afterwards remained in Ireland. He is the author of many novels, two of which, The GingerMan and What They Did in Dublin with the Ginger Man were banned in Australia in 1955 and 1961 respectively.
