Born in new South Wales as a fifth generation Australian, Hamilton's education was interrupted by the depression when he was nine, and not resumed until his early twenties. Apart from his published novel Summer Glare, he wrote several other unpublished novels, plays and short stories. He lived in Avalon, NSW.
