Winifred Moore was a Brisbane journalist. She was born in England and came to Australia as an orphan at the age of 14. She initially lived with her elder sister and family at Ingham, in North Queensland, before moving to Brisbane in ca. 1909. She joined the Brisbane Daily Mail in 1916, then later moved to the Brisbane Courier (later Courier-Mail), where she held the position of 'social editress' from March 1921 until shortly before her death in 1952. In addition to her literary and arts interests, Moore was a founding member of the National Parks Association of Queensland. Although generally politically conservative, she had a keen interest in women's affairs, and a range of social welfare issues of the day. During the later 1930s and early 1940s, Moore also worked in radio, conducting a daily program on then Courier-Mail owned radio stations 4BK and 4AK. She also lectured in journalism at the University of Queensland.
