BiographyHistory

'Professor of Archaeology at La Trobe University since 1995 and Foundation Head of its School of Historical and European Studies. Educated at the University of Sydney, Cambridge University and the University of Arizona. Visiting Professor at the Institute of Art and Archaeology, University of Paris (Panthèon-Sorbonne); Graduate School of the Faculty of Archaeology and History, Leiden University, The Netherlands, the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, the Department of Archaeology Peking University; the Department of Archaeology Gothenburg University, Sweden, and the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. Visiting Fellowships at Clare Hall, Cambridge; Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences; Australian Research Council Senior Research Fellowship in Paris; Maison Sciences de L'Homme (Paris). Numerous editorial boards, including the New Directions in Archaeology series of Cambridge University Press. Editor of the Bulletin of the History of Archaeology. In 2000 appointed an overseas member of the Research Centre of Ancient Civilization, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and in 2003 elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.'
