BiographyHistory

French dramatist and librettist, Eugene Scribe dominated the Parisian stage for more than 30 years. He began his career as a playwright by resurrecting an obsolete form of French satirical farce known as vaudeville (combining rhymed and sung couplets with musical interludes) and went on to become one of the great masters of the neatly plotted, tightly constructed well-made play. Scribe also contributed the libretti for many grand operas.
