BiographyHistory

Novelist, translator and editor Manguel Alberto is known for his anthologies of fantastic, gay and erotic literature (published by Flamingo). He has written fiction and autobiography.

Argentinian by birth, Manguel spent the first seven years of his life in Israel where his father was Argentinian ambassador. He lived in Argentina from 1955-1968, but found it necessary to leave due to political persecution. Manguel took up residence in Canada and later became a citizen of that country.

His work City of Words on literature and society was published in Canada in 2007 and by University of Queensland Press in Australia in 2008. The work is based on his 2007 CBC Massey Lectures in Canada and was broadcast on ABC Radio National in Australia in March and April, 2008.
