BiographyHistory

Initially the science-fiction division of Bantam Books (and later the Bantam Dell Publishing Group), Bantam Spectra also publishes fantasy, horror, and speculative novels from recognizable authors such as Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, George R. R. Martin, Kim Stanley Robinson and M. John Harrison. To 2010 Spectra authors have collectively won 31 awards in the fields of science fiction and fantasy, and been nominated on 132 occasions.

Bantam Spectra is the company responsible for publishing all the Star Wars novels from Heir to the Empire (1991) through to Tales from the New Republic (1999), a catalogue comprising 63 titles.

  • The Star Wars novels from 2000 onwards have been published by another Random House imprint, Del Rey. All reprints of the earlier novels, however, still bear the Bantam Spectra imprint.
