'Elizabeth Rolls was born in Kent due to the vagaries of the Australian Army but returned to Australia at the age of fifteen months when her father's diplomatic posting expired ... Most of her childhood was passed in Melbourne apart from three years in Papua New Guinea again, courtesy of the Australian Army.' During her secondary school years, Rolls developed a passion for music and went on to complete a music degree at the University of Melbourne. She then worked as a music teacher and a singer.
In the early 1990s Rolls moved to Sydney and undertook a masters degree in musicology. Following the completion of her masters, she returned to teaching. At this time she also wrote her first book, a historical novel. Rolls returned to Melbourne and submitted her novel to Mills and Boon where it was accepted for publication.
