Styles studied art privately in Perth before the war where she served as a wireless operator in the Australian Womens Army Service. After her discharge, she studied art in Melbourne at the Prahan Technical College for three years. She continued to paint (and run an art gallery) while she lived in Wittenoom between 1968 and 1995. Styles travelled widely both overseas and in Australia. She also wrote scripts for Australian radio.
