Jim Lowden established the Lowden Publishing Company, which has published from Kilmore, Victoria since 1969. Lowden was a long-term secretary of the Mechanics Institutes of Victoria, an association dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the social, cultural and physical heritage of mechanics institutes throughout Australia.
