BiographyHistory

Sir Neville McNamara KBE, AO, AFC, joined the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II, and went on to have a lengthy and distinguished career as a pilot and senior officer. He held the rank of Air Chief Marshall, the R.A.A.F.'s highest ranking position, in the period 1979-1982, and subsequently served as Chief of the Defence Force Staff, Australia's top-ranking military position, in the period 1982-1984.
