BiographyHistory

John Ansell pursued a career as a musical director in various London theatres. His compositions include both operettas and orchestral works, some of the latter incidental music, some not. Among his operettas were The King's Bride (1911), Medorah (n. yr), and Violette (1918). His nautical overture Plymouth Hoe (a potpourri of popular nautical melodies) remained popular for many years with orchestras and as a military band arrangement. Among his other theatre works was the Oscar Asche musical play, Eastwood-Ho (1919).
