BiographyHistory

Edward Leonski visited Melbourne, Victoria during World War II while a Private serving with the 52nd Signal Battallion. While in Melbourne he committed three murders. Leonski was examined by the U.S. Medical Board during June and July 1942. They concluded that Leonski was 'sane, but under the influence of alcohol' at the time of the murders. Other evidence pointed to the possibility of a 'split personality'.

Leonski confessed to the crimes, was convicted and sentenced to death by a U.S. Military Court on 4 November 1942. He was hanged at Pentridge Prison five days later.
